Ql̓ispé — Original Painting

$550.00

14” x 14”

Acrylic on canvas

When I visit Kalispel Island on Priest Lake, I’m awed by it. I wonder about all the souls who have wandered these shores, appreciating the wild beauty and abundance of the lake. I wonder about their stories — especially ones I won’t find in most history books.

This lake has existed for thousands of years. Long before the arrival of European traders and priests, it was a seasonal home to the Ql̓ispé (or Kalispel) people, who spent warmer months harvesting and preserving fish, game, and huckleberries for long winters. They are still here, and the tribe is working to preserve their stories; reviving traditions, language, and lore passed down for countless generations.
