When I visit Kalispel Island on Priest Lake, I’m awed by it. I wonder about all the souls who have wandered these shores, appreciating the wild beauty and abundance of the lake. I wonder about their stories — especially ones I won’t find in most history books.
This lake has existed for thousands of years. Long before the arrival of European traders and priests, it was a seasonal home to the Ql̓ispé (or Kalispel) people, who spent warmer months harvesting and preserving fish, game, and huckleberries for long winters.
Now, the confederated Séliš-Ql̓ispé tribes continue the work to preserve their stories; reviving traditions, language, and lore passed down for countless generations.
*From May - June, purchased pieces can only be collected in person with proof of purchase, shown to Brew Peddler’s staff.
